My Internship Agency
I was connected to the Gathering for Women (GFW) through the CHHS Field Practicum Program at CSUMB. GFW's mission and vision stood out to me because I strongly believe in the power of women helping other women. GFW is a day center for unhoused women in the Monterey Peninsula. I chose this agency for my fieldwork because of the amazing work they do for unhoused women. I also chose this agency because of my personal connection to homelessness. Being able to work with the guests at GFW on a one on one basis is an experience that I hold extremely near and dear to my heart. Many of the women have shared their stories with me. Hearing their stories drives me to want to advocate and fight for them. The women at GFW are just one example of a marginalized community that is in dire need of advocates. Being able to conduct my fieldwork at the GFW has sparked a flame inside of me that is burning now, stronger than ever. I know in my heart that I want to devote my life to social work so that I can continue to fight for these women and others like them. GFW has given me the guidance and support that I need to be able to recognize what issues need to be addressed in under represented communities. I am also learning about the resources that are available in the Monterey Peninsula that are useful to the guests at GFW.
