I am currently a Senior at CSUMB. My expected graduation date is May, 2022. I have come a really long way to be where I am today. I am humbled by my academic journey; I am eternally grateful for all that higher academia has brought into my life. My goal is to become a Social Worker. I want to work with those who are underserved, under represented, and oppressed. I believe in second chances. A comeback is possible after a set back. I am proof of that.
My educational journey started in August 2018 when I started my first semester at Gavilan College in Gilroy, CA. I was fresh out of recovery and all I knew was that I wanted to better my life. I was amazed at my capabilities! I did well! I got good grades! I inspired myself to keep pushing towards my goals. I graduated from Gavilan College with honors on May 22, 2020. Unfortunately, I was not able to receive my diploma in person due to the pandemic, but I still graduated and that's what really mattered. I am a deans list and presidents list recipient. I have received several large scholarships such as the Gilroy Rotary Club Susan Seledon Award ($15,000), the Jim McEntee Scholarship ($2,500), the Women's Leadership Council Award ($2,500), and the Jeanette Rankin Scholarship ($2,500). These awards helped me significantly and made my journey in education possible. I started classes at California State University Monterey Bay in August 2020. It was a dream come true for me! I was able to move my family from San Martin, CA to Marina, CA to start this new chapter in my life. My next step is graduate school. I will be applying for a Master of Social Work program with hopes of starting this coming Fall. I am extremely driven and I refuse to give up. Nothing can stop me from fulfilling my goals. |
